For strawberries au gratin, cut strawberries in half. Layer in 4 ovenproof dessert bowls. Melt butter and stir with the remaining ingredients in a hot water bath to a stiff cream. Spread the cream on the strawberries and bake in the preheated oven at 200 degrees for 10 min until golden brown.
Let the strawberries cool a little, sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve lukewarm.
For strawberries au gratin, use sun-ripened and local strawberries when they are in season - the taste is much more aromatic!
