Mincemeat: According to 1st meaning in the dictionary: mincemeat. However, it is a very popular trap of the English language. Mincemeat also has a second meaning, which is “sweet pie filling made of spices, raisins, fruit, fat, etc. …”.
For variant 1: Mix and chop apples, currants, raisins, raisins and candied orange peel. Add almond kernels, suet, sugar, juice of one lemon and zest and mix well. Cover baking bowl with a dish hangl and let stand for 2 to 3 days. Stir a few times a day. Later add the alcohol and fill into tightly closing jars.
To the variant 2:
Put all ingredients in a saucepan, mix well, cover and let stand for 1 or 2 days. Mix well and fill into jars, cover jars with wax and cellophane as for jam.
‘Ripen’ for at least three months before use. Should keep for one year.
For variant 3 (suitable for diabetics):
Mix all ingredients in a heavy cast iron pot, bubble gently until sufficiently thick. Pour into jars (can also be frozen).

(*) Mixed spice: classic mixture generally containing caraway, allspice, coriander, cumin, nutmeg & ginger, although cinnamon & other spices can be added. It is used with fruit & in cakes. (In America ‘Pumpkin Pie Spice’ is very similar).
