For the Swedish cinnamon buns, first melt the margarine. Add the milk and heat to approx. 37 °C. Let the yeast melt in it and stir in cardamom, salt, sugar and almost all the flour. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth. If necessary, add more flour. Cover the dough with a tea towel and let it rise for about 30 to 40 minutes.

Then knead the dough on a floured work surface and divide it into three parts. Roll out a narrow rectangular area for each and brush with liquid margarine. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle thickly over dough. Roll up lengthwise and cut into slices about 4 inches thick.

Place the pieces on the baking sheet with the cut side down. Let the dough rise again (it will double in size in half an hour).

Brush the Swedish cinnamon buns with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar. Bake on medium heat in a heated oven at 250-275 degrees for about 5 to 8 minutes. Cool under a towel.
